I have a good friend who loves nothing more than to spend 3 hours a day at the gym and at least another 2 hours browsing a health food store for the perfect ingredient to accommodate his healthy lifestyle. He’s big on Flax, which has been around for thousands of years. It’s nutritious, contains essential fatty acids like Omega-3, fiber, and Lignans which contain antioxidants. He swore by this seed’s oil, and for good reason. Until last year, when I introduced him to hemp seed oil. I started browsing current hemp news and came across an article about hemp seed oil and all the benefits of consuming it. His interest was moderately piqued and I was more than happy to explain to him that maybe hemp seed oil was the new way to go, as opposed to flax seed oil.
Hemp seed oil has important Omega-3 and 6 acids. More than flax seed oil and certainly more than most health food products on the market. At around 3300mg of Omega-3 and 8100mg of omega-6, this alone makes the hemp seed one of the healthiest substances on the market and one of the best ways to obtain these fatty acids. Flax seed oil has these acids, but only at a fraction of what hemp seed oil contains, at 4050mg/800mg. Hemp seed oil also doesn’t contain phytic acid which reduces nutrient absorption, as well as contains 11 grams of protein every 3 tablespoons. At this point my friend was nearly sold, starting to ask me question like, “where can I buy this stuff?”
I mentioned that industrial hemp grows deep into the ground, making it great for the soil around it, and it has a natural pest repellent, so it doesn’t need pesticides like all other plants products on the market. “It’s just plain better for you.” I explained. Without hesitation, my friend moved me aside to read some of the information himself. He learned that hemp seeds have a better shelf life than flax seed and certainly most of the other health food products out there at 8 to 12 weeks at least. They also don’t have to be ground like other seeds. The one thing my friend loved was sun flower seeds. Opening a bag and popping them like nature’s candy as he went about his daily routine. Well hemp seeds are the exact same in the fact that you can literally eat them whole, like a sunflower seed. For anyone who doesn’t feel like grinding their seeds and mixing them with another food product, hemp seeds are perfect.
Hemp seeds are also derived from industrial hemp plants and contain absolutely no THC. The healthiest of health nuts can breathe easy knowing this perfect little snack food won’t give you a buzz, and by the time I was done with that sentence my friend had already ordered two bags. Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil will always be my choice for health food, whether you combine it with working out or just want an extra boost of daily supplements, this perfect snack can be eaten a thousand different ways, and is just simply better for you than anything else out there you can find.
