“One of many needed fixes to the Farm Bill”
Senator McConnell’s Hemp Amendment proposed as part of the Senate Farm Bill is an important piece of legislation to support. But a recent change to the Hemp Amendment has created great concern in the US hemp industry: the change excludes Americans convicted of felonies involving controlled substances from legally cultivating and processing hemp.
This change will have a discriminatory impact on Black, Native, and Latino/Hispanic Americans, the groups most targeted in the failed war on drugs. It will also exclude some pioneers of the industrial hemp movement from the very sector they helped to now legalize. Read more about this here, here, and here.
All Farm Bill Conference Committee members must be made aware that this measure is unacceptable and needs to be removed from the finial 2018 Farm Bill.
