Sources

Primary source is the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) National Hemp Report, including state planted and harvested acreage, utilization splits (floral, fiber, grain), protected indoor production, and national value of production.

Canada

Canadian provincial licence counts, cultivated hectares, and approved cultivar totals come from Health Canada published statistics. These are aggregate metrics only — not individual licence or cultivar rosters.

Review and updates

Observations are ingested automatically, reviewed in Intelligence Hub, then published with source citations. Annual report releases typically update the prior crop year.

Public data policy

  • Only aggregated metrics are published — not individual license rosters or contact fields.
  • Values may be rounded on the free public tier.
  • Automated bulk download is prohibited.

Limitations

  • State-level data may be withheld (NASS confidentiality) for some states and years.
  • Grain acreage is published at the US total when NASS reports by region only.
  • Figures are annual estimates, not farm-level or real-time.
  • Fiber, floral, and grain acreage are utilization categories from NASS. They may overlap when the same harvested acres are reported for more than one intended use, so they do not always sum to total acres harvested.
  • NASS “Other states” is a published aggregate for states where individual names are withheld for confidentiality. Hemp.com shows this row in rankings and totals with a clear label; it is omitted from the choropleth map because it is not a single geography.
