Cannabidiol or CBD for short is one of over 100 Cannabinoids found in Cannabis Sativa L or Hemp. CBD is a major constituent of the industrial hemp plant. What exactly is cannabidiol (CBD) and more importantly, what does it do? Those questions and more are at the heart of this comprehensive guide to one of the most fascinating and important compounds of the industrial hemp plant.
Industrial hemp plants are chemical powerhouses that produce more than 400 different compounds. Not all of those compounds are unique to marijuana, of course, and appear in many other species of plants. That’s why hemp can smell like pine trees or taste like fresh lemons. But of those 400 compounds, more than 60 of them are totally specific to the plant genus Cannabis. Scientists call these special compounds “cannabinoids.” However, not all cannabinoids are created equal. Research suggests one of them, cannabidiol, or CBD, holds the key to the wide variety of medicinal and therapeutic effects. Cannabidiol is not psychoactive in healthy individuals, and is potentially considered to have a wider scope of medical applications than THC, with medical research indicating potential applications including epilepsy, multiple sclerosis spasms, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, nausea, convulsion and inflammation, as well as inhibiting cancer cell growth. Some research indicates CBD has been shown to reduce growth of aggressive human breast cancer cells in vitro, and to reduce their invasiveness. However, far more research needs to occur to fully understand this fascinating compound. One example is the fact that some research shows cannabidiol has displayed sedative effects in animal tests. Other research indicates that CBD increases alertness. Additionally it is well known in scientific research that CBD is anti-psychoactive.
Hemp Derived CBD Oil is NOT PSYCHOACTIVE
You absolutely CANNOT get ‘high’ or intoxicated by consuming CBD Hemp Oil or any whole, raw natural product from Industrial Hemp plants for that matter. Unlike “Medical Marijuana” it does not contain the psychoactive properties of THC. Additionally it is well known in scientific research* that CBD is anti-psychoactive. It is important to note that hemp derived CBD can mainly be acquired using two different methods of extraction that result in either Full Spectrum CBD or CBD Isolate (click to learn more on the difference).
NO PERMIT OR PRESCRIPTION REQUIRED FOR CBD HEMP OIL
CBD Hemp Oil is legal everywhere in USA (and most other countries in the world), you do not require a permit or prescription to buy it.
UPDATE:
The United Nations World Health Organization has issued a report about CBD (Cannabidiol), and they state very clearly that,
“In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential. CBD has been demonstrated as an effective treatment of epilepsy in several clinical trials…”
“There is also preliminary evidence that CBD may be a useful treatment for a number of other medical conditions.”
They don’t mention that CBD can be used as a preventative measure as well, for those that want to aim for their own optimal health.
There are unsanctioned medical use of CBD based products, BUT medicinal and other uses are allowed IF a country chooses to modified their laws to accommodate CBD as a medicinal and/or food (not medical) product.
