What is the difference between hemp fiber, hemp hurd, and hemp seed?
Direct answer
Seed is for planting or grain/food products; bast fiber is the long outer bundle for textiles and composites; hurd is the woody inner core for bedding and construction inputs. One stalk can feed multiple markets only if harvesting and processing deliberately separate fractions.
Confusing the three is how buyers get burned—especially when CBD-era language called everything “hemp biomass.” Industrial programs name the fraction they are buying.
