Quick answer: Hemp fiber composites use bast or sometimes hurds as reinforcement in plastics, epoxy, or cementitious matrices. Automotive door panels, interior trim, and consumer goods trials exist—but hemp is rarely the only ingredient. Performance comes from fiber length, coupling agents, press conditions, and whether the part is structural or decorative.

Common fiber forms
- Nonwoven mats — compression molded with thermoplastics
- Short fiber injection — filler/reinforcement in PP or other resins
- Long fiber — higher performance potential; harder to feed consistently
Auto parts & interiors
OEM trials have used hemp-filled composites for lighter interior panels. Parts are engineered to spec—”hemp plastic” marketing rarely tells you fiber load %, flame rating, or crash relevance. Deep dive: hemp plastics pillar.
